Charleston County Settlement Communities Project
The Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor (GGCHC) is pleased to announce we are now accepting rolling applications for the Charleston County Settlement Communities Project within Charleston County.

I. Purpose
This is a one-time funding opportunity available to 501(c)(3) organizations that identify as Settlement Communities located in Charleston County. The funding opportunity aims to provide organizations with support to expand their mission-driven services impacted by the COVID pandemic. The funding is made possible through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA). Additional partners on this project include Charleston County, The Center for Heirs Property, and The College of Charleston’s Riley Center. Funding amounts range from $25,000 – $50,000 per project.
II. Eligibility
To be eligible for The Charleston County Settlement Communities Project, applicants must meet the following criteria
1. Be a registered nonprofit organization in Charleston County, or provide proof of fiscal sponsorship from a partner nonprofit organization in Charleston County.
2. Identify as a Settlement Community established by citizens of Charleston County after the Civil War and the Reconstruction Era. These communities are typically rooted in homeownership, primarily composed of historically underserved groups, and households with low-to-moderate income or located in a qualified Census Tract
3. Projects must enhance the scope of services offered by the applicant to include technical assistance, capital improvements, or resource navigation for viable projects in affected communities.
4. Applicants must submit a minimum of three bids/project quotes for capitial projects only that include itemized project descriptions and costs. Note: Personnel costs and overhead costs are not allowable.
5. Accepted applicants must attend a grant workshop or review a recorded grant workshop session available on our website.
6. Applicants must demonstrate negative impact due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and how the project will help recovery and resiliency efforts.
