The Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor invites you to the 3rd Annual Gullah Convening, a formal black-tie gala marking 20 years of preserving, protecting, and celebrating the living culture of the Gullah Geechee people.
For two decades, the Corridor has stood with the communities, families, and culture bearers who have kept Gullah Geechee language, land, and traditions alive from North Carolina to Florida. This milestone evening honors that work and the people who made it possible.
Join us for live music, Gullah storytelling, and a seated dinner rooted in Gullah Geechee foodways, from shrimp and rice fritters to okra perloo and Charleston chewies. Twenty years in, the work is far from finished. Raise a glass to what we’ve built together and help us invest in the next twenty.

Hosted at the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center in historic St. Augustine, the summit will create space for meaningful conversations, shared knowledge, cultural connection, and collaboration focused on preserving our heritage while building a stronger future.Â

Join our Executive Director Djuanna Brockington in an engaging presentation at REI exploring the rich history, cultural traditions, and enduring legacy of the Gullah Geechee people. Participants will learn how the unique coastal landscapes of the Southeast helped preserve distinct language, foodways, arts, crafts, and environmental knowledge rooted in West and Central African traditions. The program will also touch on the current challenges facing Gullah Geechee communities, including land loss and development pressures—and emphasized the importance of protecting cultural landscapes and living heritage for future generations.

This summit is part of a multi-state series bringing together cultural leaders, historians, policymakers, and community members to explore the past, present, and future of Gullah Geechee heritage along the Corridor.
For generations, the Gullah Geechee people have shaped the history, culture, and economy of the Southeast. Now, as conveners of the culture, we are deepening our strategic conversation across the Corridor, to amplify the voices to protect, preserve, and advance our heritage.
