Following a thorough and equitable search designed to attract a diverse pool of highly qualified candidates, the Commission determined that Brockington was the strongest candidate to lead the organization into its next chapter. Her proven leadership, institutional knowledge, strategic vision, and demonstrated commitment to Gullah Geechee communities distinguished her throughout the selection process.

Over the past two years, Brockington has led the organization with steady leadership and a deep commitment to the Corridor’s mission to preserve, promote, and protect Gullah Geechee cultural heritage. During this period of transition, she ensured operational continuity, strengthened community partnerships, advanced strategic initiatives, and maintained compliance with the National Park Service, the federal partner for National Heritage Areas.

The Commission has full confidence in her vision and leadership as the Corridor continues to grow its impact.”

“Leading the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor is both an honor and a responsibility I take seriously,” said Djuanna Brockington. “This work is deeply rooted in land, legacy, and community. My vision is to continue to strengthen the systems, partnerships, and resources necessary to ensure that Gullah Geechee history is preserved and that the people who steward the culture have the support they deserve.”

The Commission looks forward to this new chapter of leadership and to advancing strategic initiatives that support cultural preservation, economic vitality, heritage tourism, and community collaboration across the Corridor.
